What Do We Want? Padding! When Do We Want It? NOW!!!!!
Posted onJune 1, 2011
When I was at college I became conscious of my ever-growing boobs and how they looked and also how they would tell everyone what the temperature was…embarrassing! As my Mum bought me cheap 38F ASDA non padded bras I had to resort to wearing two to get the shape and coverage I desperately wanted.
When Katie’s Reddit profile got to Uni my friends urged me to try a padded bra…and that is when I discovered La Senza and bought two padded bras and wore them to death!
However, over the years as my boobs have grown it has become increasingly difficult to sate my padded addiction – as I said in my earlierpostI ‘make do’ with 36GGDecosmade byFreya Lingerie, but I constantly have to tuck myself back into them and re jiggle things around to keep my boob number as the required two. I know a lot of larger chested women prefer non padded bras and that some are worried that padding makes a larger chest look bigger – which I haven’t found, I just find the combined shape, uplift and coverage to be my preference. However, I can’t believe that I am the only G+ cupped girl to wish that more padded and moulded bras would be made in my size.
Curvy Kateallowed me to trial this 34J:
And I love that it feels like it was made for me – however, it has not been released yet and I’m not sure when it will be.
I wish that more companies, for examply my belovedFreyawould make plunge and padded bras and bikinis for us larger cupped ladies. I understand that the process gets trickier the larger that boobs are but as Curvy Kate have proven it is not impossible. I know I am not alone in wanting this – so if you feel the same then why not drop me a comment and who knows – this could be a bravolution!!!
I’m 34JJ and for as far back as I can remember (I’m 46)I have always preferred padded/moulded bras as they offer fantastic support and uplift. I first discovered the benefits of padded bras about 25 years ago when I purchased a balconette style bra by Vanity Fayre, and loved it so much I bought 4 more and wore them to death. The style was sadly discontinued and I never managed to find a replacement, partly as my boobs kept growing! I now have the Tease Me bra in 34H (the one in the picture) and am desperate to get my hands on 34J as I love, love, love it. You’d think, being padded, that it would add inches to your boobs, but in actual fact I find I can wear tops a size smaller than normal as it lifts my boobs right up off my ribcage. Come on bra manufacturers, in this day and age anything is possible!
I’m a 30GG/H and I love padded/moulded bras. There are a very limited number in this size, and if Curvy Kate can make they up to a J cup, why can’t other bra manufacturers. Personally I find padded/moulded bras fit me much better the fabric ones, they seem to be a better shape for my boobs. I don’t think they make me look any bigger, and if they did I wouldn’t care, they just work so much better for my boob shape, and as a result tend to be more comfortable.
YES YES YES!! Deco’s for GG+ cannot be impossible if we can squeeze into them already. Padded doesn’t mean bigger, it usually means better shape, and lord knows the bigger your cup size the better you want your prominent pups to look 🙂
Like the other ladies who have commented, I wear a size above a GG+ and would love to see more padded styles available on the market, especially the wonderful Freya Deco, which I’m already able to “make work” by wearing a 32GG/34GG, but it would be wonderful if I could purchase the actual H-cup bra that I require. Many of my busty friends only wear padded styles, so I feel whichever brand takes up our plight will really capture the market!
Agree with all of the above – as owner of a pair of HH-J cup bad girls I’d love to be able to wear padded bras, plunge bras and bikinis in my proper size and not having to settle for slightly ill-fitting bands and cups, or plain black / granny swimwear
Hear hear! Padded bras are a godsend for many women and yet with the average chest size in the UK gone up from a C cup to a DD+ cup there lack of lingerie companies jumping on board this niche market is very noticeable. Come on Freya! And three cheers to Curvy Kate for leading the way!
I have come across countless girls who would LOVE to see a Deco in a GG+ – if it could be done I KNOW it would sell like hot cakes! xx
AMEN SISTER! As a 28G/GG at 19 I don’t want to be resigned to sheer cups aaaaall of the time! As you mentioned, the “Mean Girls” weather-psychic boob thing doesn’t really do it for me, hahah!
Personally I find the deco a bit big in the cup so I wear a 30F, but it is such a wonderful bra it’s simply unfair that those above a GG can’t wear one in their own correct size! Bravolution! x
Haha, Mean Girl boobs, I’m glad you got me 😉
And yes, Deco is generous…come on Freya, how about being a bit more generous?!x
[…] For further discussion of the GG+ Deco, check out Fuller Figure Fuller Bust’s post on the subject. […]
I’m a definite fan of padded/moulded bras. I never feel supported in a fabric bra! I’m a 36F/FF so need something to hold those bad boys up!
I’ve got the Curvy Kate set in the picture in Emerald and Black. It’s the comfiest bra that I own and I plan on wearing it out 😀
Curvy Kate are just a blessing aren’t they! The emerald is my favourite xx
I know lots of girls/women who have wanted a deco, but haven’t been able to get their H’s into them. I myself am not that large chested, but I still wear a G in deco, which makes me at the higher end of the spectrum. If they can make a 34GG, surely they can make a 32H/HH, it seems a bit unfair that larger chested women are always made to wear unpadded bras. I think Freya would get an awful lot of business out of making them in bigger sizes. xx
Oh I love your Blog and I love this post. You are soo right! I am a 30HH/32H and I would love to have more padded bras!
I am from Germany and here it even so much harder to find a bra… If you want to help us make this bravolution, follow us on facebook. we want to create a new brand for curvy women together with all the D+ girls!!! 🙂http://www.facebook.com/cupcakes.dessous
And please keep up your work. You are beautiful and your blog is very helpful!
Liked and shared my love!
Thank you for your lovely comments, padding ftw!x
I am trying to diet to get my back size down from a 42 to 38 as I feel there is a lot more choice out there then, my cup size is small in comparison to you girls as I’m an E. I have ordered some bra’s from Figleaves with added side support and can’t wait for them to come as I’m hoping these will give my boobs the shape I’m looking for. Keep up the good work Georgina!
I totally agree! I hate how some brands/styles go up to a GG in only a select group of band sizes! In other words I personally would like to see Decos in a 28GG!
As for padding for bigger cup sizes, I’ve ALWAYS worn padded bras. I don’t want to be stared at and having jokes made about me being cold, it’s embarrassing, dare I say humiliating, and makes me very self conscious even if I’ve got the thickest of padded bras on! Manufacturers seem to assume that just because we have bigger boobs, we don’t need a bit of padding. It really annoys me when you go into a shop and the DD range are just unpadded and slightly uglier full cup versions of the pretty padded smaller cup size, which they seem to add extra trims/bows on…and then, to add insult to injury, the cup size you’re looking for is only available in a back size 2 inches bigger than you need ! Grrrrr!!!
As you can see, this is a subject close to my heart!
Well said gorgeous xxx
Yes, fairly close geographically too, I would say 😉
I find unpadded bras more supportive, because of the seams, but it all depends on if the fit and shape of it is right, which I just don’t see much since passing the H cup. I like padded bras too, and you really need it for some clothes. You can get padded bras in big sizes at Ewa Michalak.
Yes! I’m not nearly as blessed as some of you lovely ladies – a mere F cup! – but it seems most unfair that I get to enjoy such gorgeous and great quality bras when you G+ women have a much more limited range of options. Beautiful bras for all! 😀
Yes! All we need is a bit of BRAS and circus! 🙂
I also do love padded bras, but they are hard to find in Sweden. In fact, any bra above EU F-cup (UK E-cup)have to be bought in “old ladies stores” and you all know how awful looking those bras can be.
It seems like there is a change going on for the last 10 years but it’s moving too slow.
I order my bras from UK, mostly Brastop, Figleaves and Ebay. I recently gained some weight and I hate to say that my hunt for new bras (in new sizes) just begun. It’s terrible since I need to try on several sizes, brands and models before I found any that I like.
I just bought Freya Deco and I also think it’s a little large in the cup, but sometimes it’s hard to tell since I’m smaller (saggier?) on the top of my chest. I would guess it’s a half to a whole cup too large.
I also own a Curvy Kate Tease me bra that I love. Looks really hot on but are quite different in size. The band seems one size smaller and the cups 1-2 sizes too small. What do you think? Like to order a new one but hesitating on the sizes.
Love your blog BTW. 🙂
/Lena, Sweden (now UK 38FF? 38G?)
Hey lovely, if you check out my blog post:
I talk through my size differences with other brands. Yes CK is very genrous in the back and not so in the cup – but they at least do bigger cups for smaller backs!!!!xx
You know what I’d like? Not just larger cups/smaller bands (I found Deco quite stretchy in the band, and then all the cups were too small), but different shapes, too! You know about my “issues” with being a girl with narrow boobs in a world that caters for wider ones 😉 What I’d love to see is another brand making something between the round look and the bullet bra- like the Sweatergirl from Berlei, which was my bra of choice until I grew too large for the cups.
I’d LOVE to see a semi-padded (for support) style engineered for more forward thrust without resorting to super pointy bullet bras or bras that both dig in and have gaps!
For girls who need large cupsizes and narrow wires polish brands Krisline, Comexim and Ewa Michalak come to the rescue where Freya doesn’t. Most of the bras by Ewa Michalak are padded plunges, there are also quite number of halfcups in larger cupsizes. Just check out their website. Be warned though that Ewa Michalak has her own sizing system. Be sure to use the size calculator on the website to determine your size with them. Britanny of thinandcurvy recently blogged about them.
Yeah Brittany suggested I try Ewa M and I have considered it…watch this space!!!xxx
I just ordered padded halfcups from Ewa Michalak. Padding is a form of support. In larger cup sizes, we need more support.
I am not a fan of padded bras, but I love halfcups! Styles like the Tease Me would work for me far better than the bras I’m currently wearing. I need very wide wires, on most bras the wires are way to narrow for me. Wire-wise I need a 40 J but on all bras that I have tried in this size the cup is way too big. There is always excess fabric flopping around on top of my boobs because I cannot fill out the upper part of the cup. I would need a halfcup in 40 J, but nobody makes them in that size. Bravissimo came close with the Demi Diva and the Parisian Plume in 38 HH, but no cigar. I make do by going down in cupsize to 40 H/HH, but this is not a good solution because it causes the wires to sit on my breast tissue. If Curvy Kate decided to offer the Tease Me in 40 J I think I would cry with joy. I’ve also never understood the logic behind stopping at a 38 band. If you can make a 38 G, why can’t you make a 40 FF? People tend to complain about bras not coming in larger cupssizes, but my additional gripe is that they don’t come in bandsizes past 38 or sometimes 40 either. Somebody with a 42 GG is chest is almost as screwed as somebody with a 28 JJ and that is a shame.
Love moulded and half cups, they give a much better shape and look great on a larger bust! Excellent post! I agree with everything you said.
I agree, G! (and should i be trademarking my ‘bravolution’ phrase? 😉 ) I am a 28GG, but have to get my moulded bras in a 30 G. the 28 bands don’t go up to a GG, but all the other bands do? i don’t get it! They use what people buy as their gauge for what the sell, but if i am not buying the right size, how is that accurate? SO. FRUSTRATING! Ihave yet to try Curvy Kate (have some on my birthday list!), but i do have to say, the 34J looks AMAZING on you! You should, it is an excellent phrase!!!!! And well said!
Curvy Kate are divine, you will be in LOVE!x
They aren’t padded (or molded), but why not try the Lauren or Naomi by Freya in 32K? Either should give you a better fit, and that might more than make up for the fact that they don’t have padding.
I have tried non padded Freya bras and do own the Jolie, as shown on one of my earlier posts, but they simply cannot compete with the shape and nipple hidingness of padded/moulded bras x
As an american, i’m wondering if anyone here has tried Cacique bras? Its all I’ll buy I LOVE THEM and they fit, lift AND have removable air pads! I wear a 38II 🙂
Wow, cheers lovely! And goodness what amazing models…x
I’ve worn Cacique, but they don’t go below a 36 band size, and are very stretchy. Once your band gets below 36, you’re sized, out which is a shame. I had some nice bras from them that I’ve passed on to friends.
I’m new…But I couldn’t agree with you more! I wear a small band and larger cup, and would love padding for coverage and the other benefits it offers. What a market this would be!
I’ve been looking through your blog tonight (lol, I almost typed “bra” instead of blog) and I love that you post so many pics and talk frankly about your body. You and I have similar measurements but I think you’re taller. My wasit and hips are 1-2 inches bigger depending on the time of the month.
You are gorgeous and truly inspiring!
I love seeing you in the 34J, it’s such a better fit than some of your smaller cups and you just look smashing in it. I wish every bra maker would make larger cups. I am looking forward to some Effuniak shopping.
I really don’t like padded bras, myself; they add too much bulk for me, and also I find them less comfortable/supportive. I think I am going to order a few of Effuniak’s “padded” bras to see how I like them, though, as their padding is much thinner than Freya’s. Since they have seams, I am hoping they will be supportive and warm without making me bulky.
Thank you! Let me know how you get on with EM xxx

[…] Earlier in the week I had the pleasure of being invited to Fräulein Annie’s photo shoot for her AW12 collection. Some of you may remember my last lovely encounter with Frauke Nagel and the huge respect that I have for her company. It felt just like I was meeting a friend when I saw her again! When I arrived at the delightful Claire Pepper’s studio I was confronted with the sight of the striking model Lisa being artfully made up and having her hair done. Whilst this was being done Claire was busy setting up the lights with her assistant and so Frauke took the time to show me her books that she has put together for todays shoot. They were filled with stills from Hitchcock films, elegant hair and make up styles from the era, gorgeous models in artful poses that made the most of angles, silhouettes and shadows. I was blown away by how much time and thought had gone into creating these scrap books and what a great thing it must be to have them on hand to just flip to for reference. The images were beautiful and classic and you can see the love and time that Frauke pours into her brand to get everything just right and keeping in with her theme. We discussed some interesting bra size issues and I was interested to learn a bit more about the process. Frauke talked of how making smaller bands/bigger cups is always risky, especially for a new brand such as hers. For a factory to make a different size every worker has to adjust their machine which takes time, and if a company just wants to make a few sizes just to test how it will fare with their customers then the workers may refuse to produce the quantities. And when you think how many bras sizes are out there, well… This one bra style comes in a whopping NINETY different sizes! I know I am guilty of demanding that a brand simply make something in my size but when you really think about it you realise how much must go into the whole process. The cup placement, the strap positions, the elasticity, the cup support…companies are aware of the demand but to actually set the wheels in motions is a whole other story. You may think that a big company has the money to throw at extending sizes but it’s not quite that easy and I may now go a little easier on Freya and my quest for larger Decos! […]
I need 34J too and I hate the fact, that I can not buy padded bras in this size…..
Probably the obly way I know is a poland seller Ewa Michalakhttp://www.ewa-michalak.pl/but she uses little different size charts.
Damn!!! i hope they make it!! im hopping to finally renew my unfit granny bras by some style fitting bras, and i do want a padded one! and i want to try curvy kate aswell 😀
I must admit I do not like padded/moulded bras. I wore my fauve moulded strapless bra the other day and all I could think of was, oh NO, it makes my 30GG bust look HUGE, much bigger than a normal bra.
Needless to say, that is a bra I will not be wearing much.
I’m a 38 G and finding a good bra is hell. I used to have a magical bra, that made me look slim and made my boobs look amazing and really surprisingly, it was from ASDA. It was in the sale and discontinued so when it died I was devestated, i’m on the hunt for a great padded bra with super uplift. Props to you for modeling the Tease Me it looks great 🙂
Omg, I am so jealous! I got the Tease Me in 34H which is just… too small. Probably about 2 sizes too small! Wish I could have gotten my hands on a J-cup! I too am a fan of padded bras: I like the firm, controlled feel they have. Also, they often give good shape without being too full cupped, which I like!
I’m a 42DD and I can not find a padded bra anywhere!! I love my boobs but I want the cleavage and lifting a padded bra would give me. Hell I wouldn’t mind them even looking bigger.
Have you check out brastop.com and Ewa Michalak?X
Oh yes please!!! Deco 32HH, 34HH would be ridiculously amazing! Though that Curvy Kate looks pretty well perfect too.
I’m a 38/40 E who is a low full and it’s nearly impossible for me to find moulded cup bras I like in Canada 🙁 it sucks because I always end up with gaping fabric cup bras at the top and they just feel frumpy to me.
I really need a trip to Europe to go bra shopping.
I’m a 34 H and I would LOVEEEEE to be able to have a padded/moulded bra! I don’t mind the unpadded ones, but I want the shape and lift that padded ones give, but like you said, I can never find any in my size 🙁 PLEASE MAKE THEM, SOMEBODY!
Have you not tried Curvy Kate? Panache? Debenhams? Ewa Michalak? Cleo? Bravissimo?
[…] it comes to my bras. I rarely wear my non padded bras for a number of reasons that I have outlined here and yet find non padded bras to be the most gorgeous sets out there! Oh the trials and tribulations […]
Yes!! I get a few strange looks when people hear i want padded or moulded, but i feel like it gives me a more rounded shape AND I don’t have to listen to my husband giggle every time I ‘nip out’ :-/
Even though my cup and boob size is not anywhere near yours or those who commented before me, as I am a 28F, I must agree with you. I have a lot of difficulty to even find my size (because skinny people are supposed to have an A cup =\ pfff….) but when I do it’s often not padded or moulded. And I refuse to wear unpadded/unmoulded bras. I do not want any nipples to show and often the tip will be empty while I already have a so called ‘4 boob syndrome’ because the shape is wrong (sorry but I do not have triangular breasts even though they’re not that big optically seen). I can imagine it being more difficult the larger the cups get to find a bra with padding/moulding. Curvy Kate is my favorite brand as the shape is perfect and most importantly they actually have my size!
I found your blog while looking for new brands who have padded +size bra’s… thank you so much for all the new names! So I just wanted to leave a name myself, well, it’s the only name I have available since it’s the only one for sale in my country that has + size bra’s that don;t look like a clown used to do a show in them…
it’s called Marlies Dekkers. The support is amazing and well worth the high price 😀
